Care guide

Keep it beautiful.
It’s easy.

Every line has its own rhythm. Here is the whole manual, shorter than a recipe.

Washable rugs

1
Shake it out

Outside or over the tub; most of the week falls right off.

2
Machine, cold, gentle

The whole rug goes in as one piece. Cold water, gentle cycle, mild detergent.

3
Dry flat or hang

Lay it flat or hang it over two chairs. Skip the dryer.

4
Back on the floor

The non-slip base grips again the moment it lands.

Coffee, wine, juice
Blot first, never rub; wash if it lingers
Pet accidents
Blot, rinse the spot cold, then machine wash
Mud
Let it dry fully, vacuum, spot-wipe
Never
Bleach, hot dryer, iron on the pile

Will it fit your washer?

A quick honest guide: match your rug size to the minimum washer drum. If yours is smaller, the laundromat's commercial machines handle it in one cycle.

Area rug Minimum drum
2' × 3'60 × 90 cm 3 cu ft≈ 85 L
3' × 5'90 × 150 cm 4 cu ft≈ 115 L
4' × 6'120 × 180 cm 5 cu ft≈ 140 L
5' × 7'150 × 210 cm 6 cu ft≈ 170 L
5' × 8'150 × 240 cm 6 cu ft≈ 170 L
6' × 9'180 × 270 cm 7 cu ft≈ 200 L
8' × 10'240 × 300 cm 9 cu ft≈ 255 L
9' × 12'270 × 360 cm 10 cu ftor the laundromat
10' × 14'300 × 420 cm Laundromatone commercial machine, one cycle
Runner Minimum drum
2' × 6'60 × 180 cm 3 cu ft≈ 85 L
2.5' × 7'75 × 210 cm 4 cu ft≈ 115 L
2' × 10'60 × 300 cm 5 cu ft≈ 140 L
3' × 12'90 × 360 cm 6 cu ft≈ 170 L

Fold the rug loosely; never force the door shut. In doubt, go one size up on the drum.

Power-loomed classics

Vacuum weekly and rotate the rug twice a year so light and footsteps age it evenly. Blot spills quickly with a damp cloth. For a deep refresh every few years, trust a professional rug cleaner; the dense pile rewards it.

Hand-woven originals

Shake it out and vacuum without a beater bar. Flatweaves are reversible: flip it now and then and it wears twice as slowly. Blot spills with cold water. For anything serious, a professional cleaner who knows wool is your friend.
