Description

Pattern

Moss Stone is a green washable rug that looks like lichen on a wall.

Deep forest green pools along the top edge and breaks up as it comes down the rug, dissolving into stone and bone until the lower half is almost bare. Faint flower shapes surface in the pale areas, too worn to name, more stain than drawing.

The composition is top-heavy on purpose. In a runner that reads as a gradient down a hallway; in a square it reads as weather sitting in one corner.

Color

Forest and moss green at the top, stone and bone below, with olive in the transition.

Walnut & Rattan & Brass

Green takes walnut, rattan and unlacquered brass, echoing this rug's high, mossy contrast.

Concrete & Linen & Pale Plaster

The stone half sits with concrete, linen and pale plaster, quiet beside this rug's moss.

Terracotta & Chalk White & Linen

Terracotta is the one warm color that works here, against chalk white and this rug.

  • Not a green sofa. The rug already owns the color

On pale floors the green half reads as a deliberate mass. On dark wood the top edge disappears and the pale half floats.

Where it works

  • Living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, home offices
  • Flat weave: lies flat, layers over jute or wool
  • 5 mm: clears a door, sits over underfloor heating
  • 70% cotton to breathe, 30% polyester to hold the weave through a wash
  • Non-slip backing woven in, not glued on
  • Enough body that the corners stay down
  • 34 sizes and four shapes, cut to order
Care & washing

Why Rugember®

We are not a brand that buys rugs.

Four generations, one throughline: it started with a kilim, hand-woven in Central Anatolia. Today every Rugember is woven on our own machines in Istanbul, cut to the size you choose, and finished by hand.

In numbers

4Generations
5mm pile
4Shapes
34Sizes

The backing is part of the rug.

Not a pad you lay underneath, and not a cover you clip on. The non-slip backing is bonded to the weave itself, so there is nothing to slip, peel or replace.

Cut to your measurement.

Every pattern, four shapes, thirty-four stock sizes. If none of them is your room, we cut the same weave to the measurement you give us.

Woven, then finished by hand.

The loom does the weaving. The edges, the binding and the final check are done by a person. That is also why a small tolerance in size is normal rather than a fault.

Low pile, by decision.

A low, dense weave is what lets a rug go into a drum and come out lying flat again. It is a construction choice, not a style one.

The long version Four generations, one Istanbul mill, a rug to remember.

They look like the photo

They look like the picture and I like that they're washable. I'd prefer them thicker, and the finished edge is a bit tacky. A rug pad option would be good too, since they slide easily. All in all about what I expected.

The rug is dictating the furniture now

Absolutely love this rug / pattern! It went in the den, which opens onto the kitchen with its medium olive coloured cabinets. Normally the rug is the last thing you buy. Not here, I'm out looking for furniture that will live up to the rug and the floor colour.
